At Ecolab, we recognize the transformative potential of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in enhancing customer engagement, our business operations, and the way our associates work. Our Responsible AI Policy underscores our dedication to using AI technologies in line with our core values of integrity, fairness, and accountability.

Principles of Responsible AI

Ecolab's Responsible AI Policy is built on five core principles:

1. Safety and Reliability: Our AI technologies are designed to minimize unforeseen disruptions and protect against harm.
2. Privacy and Security: We prioritize individual confidentiality and autonomy, protection of intellectual property, and mitigating against unintended applications and access.
3. Accountability: We seek to hold ourselves accountable through governance, clear lines of responsibility, monitoring, and sustained improvement, and expect the same from our partners.
4. Transparency: We promote transparency in the design, function, and use of AI systems, aiming to advance the explainability of AI decision-making when feasible and appropriate.
5. Fairness: We strive to treat people equitably from the design to the implementation of AI systems, and actively work to identify and mitigate algorithmic bias or discrimination.

Ecolab's commitment to responsible AI is in furtherance of our Code of Conduct and broader commitment to ethical business practices. Ecolab holds all employees, officers, directors, contractors, temporary employees, service providers, and outside consultants working on behalf of Ecolab accountable for designing, developing, and deploying AI systems consistent with our responsible AI principles.

Ecolab wil bij de productontwikkeling ten volste gebruik te maken van alternatieve methoden voor veiligheidsbeoordeling, om het gebruik van dieren bij dergelijke beoordelingen tot een minimum te beperken.

Het anticorruptiebeleid van Ecolab versterkt het commitment om naleving van alle anticorruptiewetgeving te garanderen, waaronder de Amerikaanse Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA), de Britse Bribery Act 2010 en de anticorruptiewetten die van kracht zijn in de landen waar Ecolab zakendoet. 

Ecolab houdt zich aan de toepasselijke arbeidswetgeving en discrimineert niet. Onze praktijken op het gebied van werving, indienstneming, vergoeding, promotie, overplaatsing, opleiding, corrigerende maatregelen en beëindiging van de arbeidsovereenkomst zijn uitsluitend gebaseerd op de kwalificaties en de bekwaamheid van een persoon om de functie uit te oefenen. Om een werkomgeving zonder discriminatie mogelijk te maken, moeten alle arbeidsgerelateerde beslissingen worden genomen zonder rekening te houden met geslacht, ras, etnische afkomst, nationaliteit, seksuele geaardheid, genderidentiteit, godsdienst, leeftijd, beperking, burgerlijke staat, veteranenstatus of andere persoonlijke kenmerken of omstandigheden die door nationale, regionale of lokale wetgeving worden beschermd.

Om een omgeving te helpen realiseren waar wederzijds respect heerst, tolereert Ecolab geen enkele vorm van pesterij of ander intimiderend gedrag, met inbegrip van fysiek, emotioneel of verbaal misbruik. 

Wanneer een medewerker dit beleid overtreedt, worden er disciplinaire maatregelen genomen, waaronder in het ergste geval beëindiging van de arbeidsovereenkomst. 

Ecolab hanteert al geruime tijd een nultolerantiebeleid dat aan mensenhandel gerelateerde activiteiten verbiedt.

De leveranciers van Ecolab houden zich aan de wereldwijde grondbeginselen van de menselijke waardigheid. Onze ethische inkoopnormen vormen de basis voor onze wereldwijde toeleveringsketen en eisen van directe leveranciers dat ze de gezondheid, veiligheid en mensenrechten van hun werknemers beschermen.

Leveranciers moeten voldoen aan normen op het gebied van dwangarbeid, kinderarbeid, gezondheid en veiligheid, eerlijke betaling en intimidatie op het werk.  Wij eisen van onze leveranciers dat zij onaanvaardbare omstandigheden of praktijken in hun faciliteiten identificeren en snel handelen om deze te elimineren. Wij doen geen zaken met leveranciers die niet achter de grondbeginselen van menselijke waardigheid en rechten van werknemers of eerlijke en billijke behandeling staan.

Wij baseren onze eisen aan leveranciers op internationale normen, waaronder de Universele Verklaring van de Rechten van de Mens van de Verenigde Naties, de Conventie van de Verenigde Naties over de Rechten van het Kind en de Verklaring van de Internationale Arbeidsorganisatie (IAO) uit 1998 over grondbeginselen en rechten op het werk. Bovendien vereist de California Transparency in Supply Chains Act van 2010 (SB 657), die op 1 januari 2012 van kracht werd, dat bepaalde bedrijven informatie bekendmaken over hun inspanningen om hun toeleveringsketens te ontdoen van slavernij en mensenhandel. De Modern Slavery Act van het Verenigd Koninkrijk, die werd aangenomen in 2015, vereist soortgelijke openbaarmakingen van bepaalde bedrijven die zaken doen in het Verenigd Koninkrijk.

Ecolab's products and operations are regulated by numerous different laws globally, including the European Union (EU) Substances of Very High Concern (SVHC) regulations in our European products and operations. In addition to eliminating SVHC listed chemicals in current products, Ecolab's chemical ingredient policy prohibits developing new products containing SVHCs.

Ecolab respects the principles of freedom of association and the right to collective bargaining in accordance with applicable national law. We adhere to applicable national laws that govern employee rights to exercise freedom of association and collective bargaining.

Ecolab fully supports the goals of the German Act on Corporate Due Diligence Obligations in Supply Chains (“LkSG”) and allows all associates worldwide as well as external parties to report all indications of possible violations of laws and regulations, including human rights, or environmental risks or other violations affecting Ecolab´s own business area and along the entire supply chain through the Ecolab Helpline.

Ecolab requires that business decisions be made based on fair and objective criteria and not on an offer or request to improperly influence a business decision. This policy provides a framework to establish, implement, maintain, and continually improve the effectiveness of Ecolab's Quality Management System (QMS). It defines mandatory quality expectations to ensure regulatory compliance, product safety, customer satisfaction, and consistent operational performance across the organization.

Policy

Ecolab is responsible for designing, developing, manufacturing, delivering, and supporting products, solutions, and services throughout their lifecycle to ensure they are safe, compliant, reliable, and appropriate for their intended use.
Ecolab maintains a documented QMS that must be applied consistently across all divisions, geographies, and product lines.
The QMS must maintain customer and stakeholder focus, comply with applicable laws and requirements, apply risk-based identification and mitigation of quality issues, uphold integrity in decision-making, and support effective product stewardship across the product and service lifecycle.
Ecolab is required to conduct audits, management reviews, and performance monitoring using defined quality objectives and key performance indicators to evaluate the effectiveness of the QMS and identify opportunities for improvement. Quality leaders responsible for each QMS certificate are accountable for reviewing the results of these activities and ensuring that any identified failures or deficiencies are addressed through appropriate actions.
Quality issues, risks, or nonconformities are required to be addressed through documented corrective actions and continuous improvement activities.

Ecolab is committed to reducing human and environmental exposure to hazards and promoting sustainable design through a holistic engineering approach which includes chemistry composition, format, packaging, dispensing and digital control systems.
